Australia has participated in every Summer Olympics in athletics. In the 1896 Summer Olympics, Edwin Flack won the Men's 800 and 1500 m. He was the first Australian to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics and the nation's first medalist overall. After swimming, athletics is the second most successful Olympic sport in Australia.
Athletics Australia will compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Athletes from France, Great Britain, Greece, Switzerland, and Australia have participated in every Summer Olympic Games since the games began.
Australia and the United States will host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. They will march ahead of the French team at Place du Trocadéro for the opening ceremony's parade of nations. Brisbane will host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
Australian Olympic Team 2024 Athletics
Track & field, road running, and racewalking are the three sets of 48 medal events held in the athletics section of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from August 1 to August 11, 2024.
For the first time in Olympic history, men and women will compete in the same number of medal events.

Australian Olympic Marathon Qualifying Time
Over the previous few editions, the number of Australian athletes competing in the Summer Olympics and the total amount of Olympic medals Australia has won has climbed gradually. Australia is predicted to field a team of nearly 500 athletes during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Eleanor Patterson, the 2022 world champion, and high jumper Nicola Olyslagers, a Tokyo 2020 silver medalist, are part of Australia's Olympic athletics squad for Paris 2024. On his third appearance, men's discus throw Diamond League champion Matthew Denny will be looking for his first Olympic title.
Jessica Fox will try to win her fifth Olympic medal when she returns to Paris in 2024. Three years ago, the Australian canoeist took home the gold medal in the women's C1 event. In the K1 events, she won bronze in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 and silver in London 2012.
