Day three of the Olympics: Gold for Japan in men's skateboarding and gymnastics, Canada first in judo and Great Britain a mountain bike thriller. Yuto Horigome sealed his name in the history books by winning gold in the Paris 2024 men's skateboard street final on Monday.

He is the only skateboarder to have won two Olympic gold medals, having topped the stage when the sport made its Olympic launch at the Tokyo Games in 2021. Horigome's Paris 2024 win came dramatically. Indeed, it was a restoration story that extended to the Olympic qualifying events. The Olympic qualifying cycle for skateboarding begins in June 2022.

World rankings were decided by how athletes performed at certain world skate qualifying events, including World Championships and World Skateboarding Tour events. The 25-year-old Horigome had typically collected a limited amount of points throughout the events leading up to the OQS, including a stage finish at the 2023 WST Street World Championship Tokyo.

Skateboard Tricks

Start with the basics: getting your board on and off easily, perfecting your stance, and maintaining better balance while rolling. Once you've built up your confidence and ability with these basics, get into the habit of carving and maintaining speed.

The skateboard tricks are explained below:

  1. Learn to Ride Switch

Technically, the ride switch isn't a trick, but it's one of those techniques you should get down to because you'll need it when developing more advanced skateboard tricks. Riding switch is just skating with the opposite fitting than you normally would.

  1. Drop-Ins

Again, this technique isn't a trick like Ollie's, but it's another one of those things you need to master for skating ramps and bowls. To drop in, balance the tail of your skateboard on the edge of a ramp or bowl and "drop in," letting your board accelerate.

  1. Manuals

Pulling a manual, or mini is like popping a wheel on a bike. To do a manual, pop the front of your board so you're rolling on the back two wheels. You don't have to ride for long, but walking around on several feet is a good way to improve your balance skills.

  1. The kick Turn

Kick-turn makes mapping a bit more efficient, especially when you're travelling at high speeds. To master the kick turn, place one foot on the tail of your skateboard, leaning more weight toward that end. Place your other foot on the front of the board, and as you shift your weight to your back foot, the nose of the skateboard should lift.

  1. The Tic-Tac

Tic-Tac consists of several forward and backward kick turns that rotate you a few degrees so that you propel yourself forward with small, sideways turns. Carving with smaller Tic-Tacs forces you to apply more force to the ground, which pushes you forward, giving you more speed and momentum.
