Opening Ceremony Olympics 2024 Preparations
Preparations were supposed to be completed by the end of 2023. Thierry Reboul, the executive director of branding, creativity, and engagement for the Games, described certain rehearsals as "teasers" and others taking place on-site before the event.
Thirty-one cameras are expected to cover the event; the first camera shot was taken in September 2023. Eighty enormous screens along the Seine River will carry the event. Thomas Jolly, a theatre actor and director, is organizing the inauguration ceremony, which will take place outside an Olympic stadium for the first time.
Originally, attendance was anticipated to reach 500,000 non-paying audience members and an additional 100,000 paying audience members on the lower river quays, for a total of 600,000. This will mark the first time people will be allowed after the COVID-19 pandemic.
In February 2024, it was declared that just about 300,000 spectators would likely attend the opening ceremony instead of the 600,000 originally planned. For the Ceremony, 100,000 tickets will be bought, and around 200,000 will be given away for free.
Opening Ceremony Problems
Concerns about security generated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas conflict in 2023, and the stabbing at the Arras school headed both the French government and the Paris Organising Committee to declare in October 2023 that there were no formal plans to move, adding that "Plan A takes into account all of the threats."
The government had been working on "adjustment variables" to keep the original structure. President Macron said in 2023 that several plans were in place for the celebration in the event that a security incident required it to be moved from the Seine. In response, COJOP2024 declared they have "plans in place for every known risk scenario, including cyberattacks and heatwaves, and the ceremony is no different."
Activities During the Event
The audience's path is supposed to stretch six kilometres, beginning at a Seine river bridge and ending at the Trocadéro, located across from the Eiffel Tower. Indeed, it will be passionate.
At sunset, the party starts on the Seine River. Countries organize boats to bring together about 10,500 athletes from various national delegations. The Greeks, following tradition, lead the route and begin the trek from the Pont d'Austerlitz to the Pont d'Iéna.
During the Olympic opening ceremonies, artistic performances are often the highlights of the event, above and beyond the formal speeches, national anthems, and symbolic release of doves.
Who will be Performing?
The ceremony is expected to be multifaceted entertainment that combines dance, theatre, circus acts, and opera. It will be divided into parts connected with various stories. One of these stories will centre on the ever-captivating capital of France, with its plethora of famous landmarks brought to life along the way.
The director has also included the experiences of individuals who work and live by the river, adding a little bit of regional flavour to the program.
